Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
Hallo Andrew,
The only way we can replicate your results here is by using msi to do
the macro expansion on the host, which gives:
It was my mistake in the first message. I recognised the "bug" when I
was running make and supposed dbLoadTemplate was invoked. Later I saw
that the make system uses the msi and a call of dbLoadTemplate produces
the warnings.
We will therefor be releasing a new version of MSI which behaves like
the old dbLoadTemplate program and leaves the unexpanded $(HOPR) and
$(LOPR) variables in the output.
Note that the rules for how templates are expanded are found in the
IOC application's <top>/config/RULES.Db file. We assume that your
RULES.Db has been modified to use msi instead of dbLoadTemplate.
Yes, but I'm just a user of this make system and never had a look on in
that is more deep as neccessyry :-)
We are also leaning towards implementing Andreas Luedeke's suggestion
of being able to put default values for particular macros inside the
template file. If you wish to persue your idea of including defaults
in the substitutions file pattern line, you'll have to write your own
tool to do that (or modify one of the existing EPICS programs).
My Idea of putting defaults in the pattern was spontaneous when I was
considering the ability of having defaults by setting all substitutions
in the first line of a .substitution file and using the msi's feature to
"keep it in mind" for the other lines. Here the way to put it in the
pattern line is a cleaner way. The advantage of this is to have
"individual" defaults for a special application instead of "global"
defaults in the template itself. But I agree that Andreas' idea is also
really good to prevent that one has to change all .substitution files
when changing the template. Why couldn't we have both - as a kind of
"value inheritance"?
Regards
Bernhard
