Subject: vxWorks 5.5.2 (Tornado 2.2.2) on MVME6100

This is a heads-up warning for any EPICS sites that are currently using the MVME6100 board with vxWorks 5.5.1.

Do not install the Tornado 2.2.1 Service Pack 1 to upgrade your vxWorks 5.5.1 installation up to Tornado 2.2.2/vxWorks 5.5.2 until you also have an updated copy of the mv6100/mv64360End.obj file compiled for the new release. This service pack includes changes to the GCC compilers for the PowerPC which make the 2.2.1/5.5.1 binary driver for the MVME6100's network interfaces not work under 2.2.2/5.5.2 (and probably require a complete rebuild of all your application code as well).

This particular combination of BSP and vxWorks version is currently "not supported" by Wind River, and WRS are not permitted to distribute the source code for this driver which is why they have to ship a precompiled binary version with the BSP. Despite the "not supported" status though if you reference my TSR#547828 you may be able to speed up the process of getting them to give you a copy of the mv64360End.obj file compiled against 2.2.2/5.5.2, which now works for me (with one addition to the BSP Makefile).
