Title: Fedora 6 kernel-xen-2.6.20-1.2948 bug + NTFS mounting + openmotif
1. kernel-xen-2.6.20 bug
After updating Fedora Core 6 to kernel-xen-2.6.20-1.2948.fc6.i686.rpm, PC systems were unstable. Symptoms were error messages and rebooting.
I had selected all options for the original FC6 installations which included the "xen" kernel. The "non-xen" kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6.i686.rpm is installed by default. The "xen" kernel is not installed by default.
Solution was to replace the updated xen-kernel with the non-xen (default) kernel.
I uninstalled kernel xen-2.6.20-1.2948.fc6
and installed the non-xen kernel (kernel-2.6.20-1.2948.fc6-i686.rpm) from:
2.
Mounting Windows NTFS file system for read and write with Fedora 6.
May 24, 2007 [email protected]
REQUIREMENTS (minimum):
1. fedora 6
2. fedora-extras installed (turned on by default).
3. kernel-2.6.20-1.2948.fc6 or kernel-xen-2.6.20-1.2948.fc6 running.
4. ntfs-3g installed.
Windows NTFS mount HowTo:
1. Check to see if ntfs-3g installed:
> rpm -qa | grep ntfs
"ntfs-3g-1.516-1.fc6"
If above line shows, ntfs-3g is already installed, then skip to 2.
As root, install ntfs-3g
1. # yum install ntfs-3g
Note: need network access
Examples:
2. # mkdir /ntfs
3. Add "one" line to /etc/fstab (examples, need to know ntfs partition):
/dev/hda1 /ntfs ntfs-3g rw,defaults,umask=0000 0 0
/dev/sda1 /mnt/windows ntfs-3g defaults,fmask=0000,dmask=0000,uid=500 0 0
Windows NTFS file partition should now mount.
4. # mount -a
For more ntfs-3g detail see:

3.
Fedora 6 upgrade note:
I installed Fedora SIX (6) last November and added openmotif FROM FEDORA FIVE (5). No updates since.
I just did a software update of all packages. Installed openmotif (5) seemed to confuse the updates.
Solution was to:
uninstall openmotif
do the Fedora 6 updates
reinstall openmotif
