Hi Matthieu, Kevin and all, The Version of Sientific Linux is 2.6.18-92.1.22.e15. Thanks your hints I have played around a little bit in the /usr/share/X11 and /etc/X11 direcories. The font path, viewed by "xset q" showed only "build-in"! I have extended it by using "xset +fp /usr/share/X11/fonts/75dpi" and "xset +fp /usr/share/X11/fonts/100dpi". Now "xlsfonts" shows a long list and probe is working properly. Thank you for your help! - Bernd Kevin Anderson schrieb: Matthieu Bec schrieb:Hi all, I have installed "probe" unter Linux and OpenMotif. When probe starts, the messages Unable to load font! Unable to load font1! Unable to load font2! shows up. It needs some "-adobe-*****-iso8859-1" fonts (seen in probe_main.c). Probe is usable but the characters are quite small and hard to read. "xlsfonts" displays only a few fixed fonts. If I use YamExtender and search for installed font packages, I find a lot. How can I install the necessary fonts, so that they can be used? You don't mention what version of Scientific Linux you're trying to use. I wonder if the root cause could be the removal of the X Font Server, like it is with edm and recent (> 7) versions of Fedora? http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/tech-talk/2009/msg00393.php has more details with how to get around that problem. Otherwise, try downloading xorg-x11-fonts-75dpi and xorg-x11-fonts-100dpi. You might also be able to get a better idea of what fonts you have available using xfontsel instead of xlsfonts. -Kevin
