Using VDCT to add autosave info fields

Cosylab has upgraded VDCT, starting with v2.6, so that info fields are preserved if a database file containing them is resaved using VDCT.  This does not address the inconvenience to have to manually, or in some other manner outside a database configuration tool, add desired info fields.  My questions are, is there an existing configuration tool that allows the addition of the info fields? If VDCT were to be upgraded, should this be done purely through VDCT somehow, without the addition of extra fields to the iocApp dbd file?
