I think the EDM display does work and is being used a Diamond.
All EPICS waveform records are viewed by EPICS as 1-D, including those used by areaDetector. There are additional PVs that are used to describe the actual dimensions of the array.

There is a "2D Profile Monitor" included in the EDM source, though I don't think it is added to the list of edm objects by default.
Last time I checked there wasn't much documentation for it, but as I recall it needs to read from a 1D waveform PV, which would seem to make it incompatible with the 2D-array data type used by this ImageJ plugin.
