Very odd.  I don't see a crash with SciPlot on either solaris or linux, but I do see a crash
with XrtGraph on both solaris and linux.  This is getting muddy:

MEDM 3.1.4 on solaris, built with SciPlot and epics 3.14.10
/APSshare/epics/extensions_2009_07_22/bin/solaris-sparc64-v10-gnu/medm
doesn't crash on array or scalar plot

MEDM 3.1.4 on solaris, built with XrtGraph and epics 3.14.11-asd1
/usr/local/epics/extensions/bin/solaris-sparc/medm
crashes on array and scalar plot

MEDM 3.1.2.1 on linux, built with SciPlot and epics 3.14.9
/APSshare/epics/extensions_2007_07_31/bin/linux-x86-fc6/medm
doesn't crash on array or scalar plot

MEDM 3.1.4 on linux, built with XrtGraph and epics 3.14.11-asd1
/usr/local/epics/extensions/bin/linux-x86_64/medm
crashes on array and scalar plot
