long strings in edm

In epics 3.14.11 it is possible to caput a long string (> 40 characters) using the following:

 

caput –S mypv$ “some string that is longer than 40 characters”

 

Is there an equivalent for writing long strings from an edm (version 1-12-28) text control or similar widget?

 

(In my particular case I want to write a long PV name into a DOL field)
