Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
At SLAC we use Beckhoff Field Bus devices. A typical set would consist of BK9000, KL3102, and KL9010.
BK9000 is the Ethernet coupler, KL3102 is a two channel differential input analog module (-10V to +10V), and KL9010 is a terminator. These are not expensive. The BK9000 uses Modbus protocol. Beckhoff has a large array of Field Bus products.
I am using Modbus driver written by Mark Rivers. A soft IOC consists of the afore mentioned driver, a handful of EPICS records, and configuration specified in the st.cmd file.
