I'm sending this again from my gmail account because our new mail system can't send to tech-talk.
 
I would recommend using GnuWin32 version of make instead. It is working fine for me.

I think Jeff Hill also had trouble recently with the mingw version of make, but had success with GnuWin32.

 

I am using ActivePerl and Visual Studio 2008.
