We've managed to resolve the issue. The mpc pumps just use a serial to ethernet adapter, so the protocol is identical to the serial protocol. I recently learned that these controllers will accept packets with a checksum of 00, so it's not required to calculate the checksum. Also they should report error messages for checksum errors or invalid commands (as long as the address field is correct). However, our particular version has both a serial port and an ethernet port. The internal dip switches were set at the factory for RS-485 operation rather than ethernet communication. After modifying the dip switches we have ethernet communications working well.
