Dear tech-talk, My query is not related to EPICS, but I hope to get advice from the EPICS community. I work at Diamond Light Source (http://www.diamond.ac.uk) looking after the control system of insertion devices. I am writing because we are reviewing the build of insertion devices. I would like to contact insertion device builders to enquire about the choices of components used for the controls system. I started by contacting a list of insertion device groups from the European LEAPS initiative (https://www.leaps-initiative.eu/). I had helpful replies from many. Thank you again. I would now like to also contact facilities using insertion devices in the EPICS community. Please could you forward my query at the bottom of this message to a relevant person at your institution? I would also be glad to get your comments and feedback. Many thanks, Ronaldo Mercado Diamond Query about control system choices for insertion devices. Dear Sir/Madam, Would you be able to comment or let me know your choices in motion equipment in your installations? Resolution Motor type (stepper vs servo vs other) Motor controller (make, model, type) Amplifiers (make, model, type) For example at Diamond we have 24 moveable insertion devices. We use servo motors, Compax amplifiers (made by Parker) and depending on the generation of our equipment OMS (prodex)
or Delta Tau motor controllers. The resolution of our equipment is 0.1 micron for vertical translation and 1.0 micron or 0.5 micron for phase
translation (APPLE-II insertion devices). My intention is to look through this information to guide us for upgrading/updating our systems. Thank you for your time and help. Yours faithfully, Ronaldo Mercado
