There several ways to get the epid record without including stuff you don't want:
  1. You could build the record directly into your application.  The epid record itself doesn't need anything but base.  devEpidFast needs asyn, but you don't have to build devEpidFast to use the epid record.
  2. If you want to start with the std module, but don't want to include ASYN or SNCSEQ, just comment them out of std/configure/RELEASE, try to build, and comment anything that fails to build out of std/stdApp/src/Makefile and out of std/stdApp/src/stdSupport.dbd.  You will want to "make clean uninstall" after modifying Makefile or any .dbd file.
  3. You can use std as it is, if you also build asyn and seq.

Subject: Installing 'std' module to use epid record

Hello,

I am very much just getting a handle on EPICS as a whole. This may seem like a trivial question but after trying for a number of hours I have not gotten any closer to my goal.

I am currently building a device that needs precise temperature control and I would like to implement PID control into my IOC. I would like to use the "epid" record but I cannot seems to get it installed. Ideally, I would like to keep the whole system relatively lightweight and install only the modules and their dependencies, rather than the whole synApps package.

How could I go about doing this?

Thank you,

~ Chris
