Subject: | database method to copy string to char waveform |

Dear EPICs community,
I was looking for a way to copy the contents of a stringout record to a waveform record, preferably just using a database.
This seems like a pretty straightforward issue, but I could not find a way to do this with say acalcout or scalcout records. I could also work the other way around, i.e., copy 40 chars from a waveform to a string record.
This was asked before, way back in 2011, but didn't really have an answer https://epics.anl.gov/tech-talk/2011/msg00636.php.
My problem is pretty much identical to that situation, I want to synchronize the filenames used by the netCDF file plugin and the saveData routine of the sscan.
Thanks and best regards
