Hi Michael.
We use the EIB741 boxes over TCP/IP at the Canadian Light Source. Our driver works well but is incomplete; it handles EnDat 2.1 and 2.2 but not relative encoders. However, there's a new project underway which may require that the driver be expanded. What type of encoders are you using? I believe there is also an issue switching encoders from IK320 directly to the EIB boxes, but I don't know if there is a similar problem going from IK342.
The driver is in two parts, one supplied by Heidenhain, and the one written at here at the CLS. So our driver isn't speaking directly to the device, it's speaking to the Heidenhain software that comes with the boxes.
Please let us know if you'd like more information, and I will bring my colleague into the discussion. Gillian Black

is someone using an EIB 741 (or 742) from Heidenhain for reading encoder signals with EPICS via TCP/IP communication? We want to exchange our old IK342 (also Heidenhain, VME-bus communication). If not: can someone point me to a similar device Support that reads encoder signals (probably it will be streamDevice) from that I can derive support for the EIB741? The EIB741 user manual can be found here.
Thanks in advance! Michael
