Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
You can already edit/generate template files, but not yet in combination
with the generator files that are the input files to dbLoadTemplate.
VisualDCT allows for each "Menu" field either one of the valid choices,
or the input from a substitution variable. Like for example a SCAN
field can be set to one of the items from the menuScan in the dbd file
or from a variable like for example $(SCAN_RATE).
Since the value of that variable is not known to VDCT, it cannot
do syntax checking for it.
Those variables can be used in record names, too. Here VDCT can
at least show the link destination: if it is within the same database,
it should be referred by with the same variable in the name.
If VDCT would also handle the generator files, it could do full
syntax checking on the expanded db files. Then a wrong assignement
to a substitution variable in a generator file would show up as an error.
