Here is a simple test using the EPICS caget
Normally it is in a loop using caget every 2 seconds.
If you "quit" the EPICS server then I get a serious failure and the test program is lost somewhere in the ca library
Please delete the "goto START" line from inside the for() loop and try again; the program should not be recreating its CA context just because a channel has disconnected. The CA client library handles disconnection and reconnections itself internally, and by recreating the context every time there's a timeout error you're almost certainly confusing it.
Also, I would think if you do this too many times you're going to get too many connections and your IOC will become unresponsive to the outside world (part of this quite possibly being caused by memory fragmentation. We have one IOC that does that on occasion.).
