Given the usual caveats about some processes deleting files while other processes are writing/reading from them; you can operate on these files independent of the archiver. So, in some cases, you might see some exceptions about missing files etc but otherwise things should continue to function as usual. Hope this answers the question...

Don't understand this question though. The files here contain actual data; if you delete these files; you will be losing data.

I think the question can be rephrased as: Can you safely move away the files?
