Just found Mark's ASYN change from January, where he hardcoded TIRPC=YES for Linux.
https://github.com/epics-modules/asyn/blame/master/configure/CONFIG_SITE.Common.linux-x86_64

If your ASYN is older, you need to set TIRPC=YES - either in a CONFIG_SITE.local or in the same location.
