It does take a LOT of extra effort for this build. I am just not sure what portions of the code are the painful ones.

No, we don't need the core to build on HP. We just need the client-side of channel access...we don't even need the PCAS.
As I said in my email, we will not be staying with HP. Our transition away from it will take several years, however, and we'd like to see 3.14.x continue to be HP-compatible. Is this a major drag for the EPICS core group?
