Yes, you would have had to run the 'realclean' command before moving the tree, then it would have worked. Or use Martin Konrad's git command.
This RELEASE.<host>.local file is needed for builds of our sub-modules to be able to find their build rules and install location. Support modules can't assume EPICS_BASE is at $(TOP)/../.. because if someone sets INSTALL_LOCATION in their base/configure/CONFIG_SITE
file it won't be. Sites using the same build tree to support multiple host architectures with different mount paths is why the file has to be host-specific, and it also has to give an absolute path because the RELEASE files get pulled in by every Makefile
in the source tree.
