One useful application could be a filter that extends/replaces the MS
flag behavior for links in such a way that the record that receives the
data also inherits the status (in case the severity of the source is
higher than the current one in the target). Think of a calc record with
two input links that point to hardware records. If the operator could
directly read off the inherited status, it may be more obvious where the
problem actually comes from than with the current status LINK. Such a
filter would be useful for both input and output links, BTW.
