Following a link from the Cosylab article . . .

 . . . a date of 1984 caught my eye, leading to this article . . .

EPICS system: an overview, Bartlett, J.F.; Bobbitt, J.S.; Kramper, B.J.; Lahey, T.E.; MacKinnon, B.A.; West, R.E., 1984-02-01

. . . which describes the Experimental Physics Interactive Control System (EPICS) developed at Fermilab for the proton synchrotron using PDP-11 and CAMAC, written in PASCAL, and using a BASIC language command interpreter.

So we weren’t the first to use the EPICS name for an accelerator control system. (And now Fermilab is trying again with EPICS for their accelerators.)

Hi Rok,

1: I would just refer to EPICS 7. There is no, and never really was an EPICS 4 as a self-contained release. The features foreseen in EPICS 4 development became practically usable first after integration in the Core, i.e., EPICS 7 release. (there may be opinions on this one though…)
2: Fixing the link would IMO do the job. (https://epics-controls.org/epics-users/projects/)

Thanks,

Timo

Hey Timo,

thx for comments, much appreciated. Can you suggest improvements (or check below)?

  1. Do you just want to move to EPICS 7 (instead of 4)?
  2. We just fix the link to epics-controls site?

Cheers,
Rok

Interesting.
In general OK IMO, but there are a couple issues that I spotted after a quick read:

-“EPICS 4” still keeps popping up: “…integrated micro-services in V4.” (?)
-the “projects” list points to the ANL website, which states that the list was last updated in December 2000. (epics-controls site has a list that is at least somewhat more up to date…)
