Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System

The matrix.to - links are public invitation links that work independent of your chat client, OS, ... That and only that.
Once you have a client installed/configured and are connected to your homeserver, connections, spaces and rooms show up very quickly.
The first set of invitations that George sent out for the Cyber-...room are not working anymore. Once we set up the room in the right place, he sent out another set of invitations. Those work. If a room is busy and people are sending hundreds of messages, everyone in the room will see these messages. That's the idea of chatting.

Hi:
For what it’s worth, it’s a little disappointing and/or confusing.
When I enter the chat system via
https://matrix.to/#/#epics:epics-controls.org
I need to push a “Continue” button and then wait 10 seconds or longer for the “EPICS Community” to open.
I see an “E” with a red “!”, another peach-colored “E” with a red “106”, a baby blue “E” with a gray “121”.
Not really looking forward to parsing 200+ messages, I click on one of the “E”s and get a list which includes “EPICS Cyber Sec… Design Questions” again with a red “!”. Click on that, “Accept” the invitation,
and “Joining…” ends in “Failed to join”.
Would be a fun game of whack-a-mole if I had nothing else to do…

Just a friendly reminder. . .
To avoid user frustration, I think we really should have you, the specialists, on the chat before we open it up. Remember to "edit" the homeserver to point the web-based Element to epics-controls. org

Dear Core-Talkers,
Answering to requests for a way of communication that is more intimate than Tech-Talk (~1000 subscribers), we are introducing EPICS Chat, based on the Matrix protocol and network.
We're doing this as a phased roll-out. We had beta testers and volunteers first, now we're going to the core-talk members, and in April (Collaboration Meeting) we'll go fully public.
If you have a Matrix account on another homeserver, you can just join the EPICS space through the link on top of the EPICS web page.
If you want to create a Matrix account on the EPICS Chat homeserver, follow the instructions further down that page. Make sure that you re-direct your client to the
epics-controls.org homeserver when creating the account.
I'm happy to help create the infrastructure (spaces, rooms) that is needed and to boost you to moderators or maintainers for your areas - EPICS Chat should be a service that is largely self-maintained and
adapts to the community needs.
Thanks for your help and - see you on EPICS Chat!
~Ralph
