At APS found that the Tracewell crate did not provide proper cooling to
slots 1 - 3. We also did not like the fact that the power supplys and
fans were not easily field replaceable. We subsequently had Mupac
redesign the crate to provide the proper cooling and to allow field
replacement of the fans and the power supply. In addition the Mupac has
additional cooling for the power supply is provided by a power supply
top mounted fan and a connector (DB9) is provided for the remote
monitoring of the crate's power supply voltages.
The same power supply (TODD) is resident in both the Tracewell and the MUPAC.
Air flow measurements in MUPAC and Tracewell VME crates. You can draw
your own conclusions from the data listed below..

We have two hardware module that replace the 712M.
1. System Monitor Module
This board is meant to replace the MVME712 Transition Modules as well
as provide additional features that will facilitate in monitoring the
status of the IOCs.
In addition, EPICS device support has been written for the board.
This board provides:
- Serial Console Port
- AUI connector for ethernet
- VME interface to read and write registers as well as generate
interrupts
- Status Link that transmits the status of the VME crate to a neighbor
crate
This status includes:
- state of the watchdog timer
- temperature threshold
- CPU status
- CPU Run Status
- Voltage monitor, 5V
- Voltage monitor, +-12V
- CPU fail status
- Remote VME reset of backplane, by monitoring Serial Port
- Digital I/O (8 outputs, 4 inputs), able to generate an interrupt to CPU
- Temperatue Monitor (5C increments)
- Voltage Monitor for 5V and +-12V
- Watchdog Timer
2. Simple Interface:
- Serial Console Port (copper of fiber)
- AUI connector for ethernet
- Remote VME reset of backplane, by monitoring Serial Port
