I just want to mention that some, if not all, the device and driver support
modules would have to be rewritten if you expect these newly added records
to be able to do any I/O. And that looking at the modules supplied with
the EPICS distribution is not representative of the total volume of device
and driver support currently written (at least for the APS anyway.) I would
bet that it would take 8 months just to get our device support stuff updated
alone.
We have some number of custom records as well.
I think that I can speak for APS application developers when I request that
we at LEAST be able to /run/ the old code... even if we can't add records of the
type of their (soon to be) older recSup type or that uses their older device
support code.
