In order to be prepared for our imminent conversion to EPICS, we need to
purchase VxWorks development machine(s). Since we may want to use a
Force SPARC 2CE as a target, we must use a Sun as the host machine. I am
thinking of a SparcStation 20 Model 612 with TurboGX graphics, 20" monitor,
64MB RAM and 1GB disk (MIT cost $13.5K). This model has two processors.
We are not sure how the development work will break down, but we have to
assume that at times there will be more than one person (maybe many) doing
such work at a time. My hope is that that dual processor arrangement will
provide adequate power under the worst circumstances, with in house
workstations providing X access for the people not sitting in front of
the Sun.
Given peoples' experience with VxWorks development, is this a reasonable
configuration, or am I better off with more, individual, less powerful
workstations.
Thanks,
Tony Carter
