Nick,

The mdct directory contains two versions of the graphical database configure
tool. I should give you a brief history of gdct before I explain the two
versions. The GDCT program is built using a graphics/windowing package
called InterViews along with the extension Unidraw. The InterViews/Unidraw
package is in the public domain and freely available from standford. The
package is C++ based (object-oriented) and has a Mac-like look and feel for
all it's widgets. The company Quest took the package and added the Motif
look and feel and sold it as ObjectViews/ObjectGraphics. Quest is no
longer in business.

Gdct was developed using the InterViews/Unidraw packages. I changed it
slightly to use the ObjectViews/ObjectGraphics library when we got the
package. After hearing that Quest went out of business, I converted the
tool back to use InterViews/Unidraw.

The directory gdct contains the source code to the Quest
ObjectViews/ObjectGraphics version and generally cannot be compiled by anyone
but Argonne. We have the Sun executable available via ftp if you want it.
The directory free_gdct is the version that can be compiled using the
InterViews/Unidraw package. There is a file in here that explains where to
get the InterViews/Unidraw package. Free_gdct has been successfully
compiled and run on the Sun and on the HP.
