The medm 2.2.x is capable to read and write both 2.2.x and 2.1.x. I don't see
any difficulty to add a command switch so that medm will act as a file
conversion utility. Actually this is one of the item in my list. The change
of file format was requested by John Winans to improve the performance of his
Java applet. The new format produces a smaller file size and more logical
layout of data. Medm is also benefit from this changes too.
For the documentation of file format, since there is a need here, I will
make the documentation of the new and old file format avialable on the web
as soon as my time permits. However, I still discourage people to use any
unusual behavior of the software.
For information on changes, the file RELEASE_NOTES, which come with the source,
contains a brief description of changes on the different releases. I do plan to
write up some documents of how to use medm to create display. I have been asked
for the documenation by so many persons already. I am sorry for the
inconvenience and thank all your patience.
Keep the EPICS spirit rolling.
