The Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) is a national, multidisciplinary research 
organisation for science and engineering. In order to complement the existing 
research installations, we are building a 2.5 GeV Synchrotron Lightsource for 
Switzerland (SLS) at PSI. This facility will provide electromagnetic radiation 
of unprecedented brilliance for research fields in physics, chemistry, biology, 
medicine and material science. 

We seek to recruit for our team a 

                  Real-Time Software Engineer 

To participate in the design, development and operation of the SLS machine and 
experimental control and data acquisition systems. This will involve: The 
design and development of real-time software systems. The specification and 
procurement of software components. The interfacing of real-time computer 
systems to accelerator hardware. 

We expect the successful candidate to hold an university degree in physics, 
computer science, or a relevant engineering discipline and to have several 
years of professional experience in real time programming. Excellent knowledge 
of real time operating systems, UNIX, network socket programming, and VME bus 
is required. Experience of field-bus, industrial controls, interfacing ADC's 
DAC's and Digital I/O desired. Knowledge of object oriented analysis and 
design, CASE tools, X-windows programming, and accelerator or experimental 
systems preferred. Knowledge of German and English would be of advantage. 

The position requires full dedication to the project and leaves ample space for 
own initiatives. It opens the possibility to help shape the SLS project right 
from the beginning.
