Dear EPICS collaborators,
In the recent few years, there are several OPEN industrial control network
standards been developed. ControlNet is one of them. ControlNet is an open
network for real-time control applications.
The EPICS VME ControlNet interface support is now available on the web at
www.sns.bnl.gov/epics/cnet .
This product is supported by SNS (Spallation Neutron Source www.sns.gov)
project. It will bring the following benefits to our VME EPICS application
developers :
1. A VME IOC is now able to engage a real-time control application via an
open industrial network.
2. A VME IOC is now able to perform peer-to-peer interlocking at 2ms
deterministic updating rate.
3. A VME IOC is now able to remotely scan FLEX IO or AB 1771 IO modules via
ControlNet as an alternative option to VME 6008 RIO.
4. A VME IOC is now able to communicate with AB PLC-5 or ControlLogix 5550
with at least 200 word data block at 2ms update rate.
A talk on this product will be presented at the EPICS collaboration meeting
at Oak Ridge National Laboratory on November 14, 2000
(http://lansce.lanl.gov/lansce8/epics/EpicsCollMeet2000/agenda.htm).
