Another problem could be that a backplane IP address was set with the
incorrect subnet mask.  We had this problem.  The "correct" subnet mask for
the backplane is 0xFFFFFFFF, i.e. all 1's.  Not setting a subnet mask for
the backplane IP address will result in the default of 0XFFFF0000, and the
backplane becomes your default route to the world, and it's a dead-end. If
you are not using the backplane network then just delete the backplane IP
address.
