At our beamline at the APS we are very interested in this. Our vxWorks
files (Tornado 2.02) actually all reside on a Linux file server, and the
IOCs boot from the Linux machine. We use a Solaris system to build with,
via NFS mount. The Sun is old, and is about 7 times slower than the Linux
box. I have successfully used recent versions of gcc on Linux to build for
the MV167 and MV162. However, when I try to build for the PPC604 on Linux
it compiles fine, but there are run-time problems with the C++ exception
handling code. It would be very nice to have a supported environment to
build on Linux.
