I assume you are talking about release 3-3 since this is the first release to provide generic device suppot for epics records.
Your driver must implement interface asynDrvUser. See
http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/modules/soft/asyn/R3-3/asynDriver.html#otherInterfaces
