Dear
Martin,
The
motor record has "soft motor" device support. You can give it input and
output links (for readback position, drive, stop, etc.). With a small
database that could be used for some simulation.

Hi,
I was wondering if
anybody has considered writing or has written device support for the motor
record to simulate a motor. At Diamond a Java user interface is being developed
which will talk directly to EPICS motor records. At the moment I've produced a
simulation using a combination of EPICS records and SNL code. However, the
simulated database and the real database end up being significantly different
- which defeats the point of the simulation. A better approach would be to
have a simulated device support for the motor record where the type of motor
(e.g. steps per rev etc...) can be specified in the st.cmd
file.
Any thoughts or
help would be greatly appreciated.
