You can have 2 control systems.
One with fast response time and PLC based.
The other one with EPICS (and PLCs reporting their status to EPICS).
Ofentimes, skills to build both of those control systems are different.
Instead of converting your hardware in IOCs, you may want to just had an
IOC (computer + EPICS) that can interface with it. This allow for smooth
transition. There are several PCI MODBUS cards available on the market.
In any case, it seems you have a lot of programming to do but that is no
different from what we are all am doing ;-)
