Just to add to the consensus. I also strongly recommend using templates
of basic record types, rather than creating a custom record. There's
very little that can't be done with the existing semantics of basic
records and links (although admittedly it can take a while to learn all
the tricks). For me, it became clear quickly that if I went the custom
record route, I would wind up with 5 or more custom records, each of
which then has to be debugged and maintained. Then, when you consider
tweaks to add functionality later on, it is easier to link in a few new
basic records than it is to try and integrate a tweak into the C support
code of a large custom record.
