Subject: ADEL field in motor record

Hi,

At DLS we are currently attempting to reduce our PV archiving load. Some of the data that we archive is effectively noise, so we are setting up the use of ADEL wherever possible.

The current version of the motor record doesn't have an ADEL field, which means that if we set an archive monitor on RBV (the motor controller readback value) then we archive every change of RBV, including encoder noise or insignificant servo motor changes.

Would anyone have a problem with me adding ADEL to the motor record? The default value for ADEL would be zero, so that no change in default behaviour is seen. But it can then be set to a sensible value for archiving.

I would implement it in the same way as it's done for the analogue input record. So this means an additional ALST field for use in the monitor() function.

While I'm at it I could also add an MDEL field to enable a value monitor deadband.

Cheers,
Matthew
