Another thing to look at would be the LiveEPICS CD image
(http://www.lnl.infn.it/~epics/). This live CD contains a complete small
example control system in a bootable image. If you manage to put it on
your pen and boot from it - you're probably half way there.
Also, the controls group at VECC Kolkata are using EPICS, so you might
get additional local support there.
