Hi Mark,

I referenced Advanced Photon Source in most places in email below. Thanks for the catch! I must of been thinking of Eric Norum and his new work at Berkeley ... Eric made many fine contributions to EPICS during his years of employment at "APS". Eric is another great contact for explanation of EPICS as contender for accelerator controls system.

Kind regards,

Debby

Dear Gorka,

My suggestion is that you visit sites that use EPICS and TANGO to get a first hand look and demonstration of what they can do. At the Advanced Light Source (APS) in Illinois, USA, we have made extensive use of EPICS

by building many customized software tools that tie EPICS into other accelerator controls tools such as PLCs, relational databases, commercial document management system software applications, and more. Ned Arnold of APS would be a really good contact for you and possible host at APS if you are ever in the Chicago area.

I would be glad to send you published papers on the IRMIS suite of tools

developed at APS for integration with EPICS software if you would like to have them.

Best wishes and good luck with your decision.

Hello,

My name is Gorka Ronda. I'm working as a R & D engineer in a Spanish company called JEMA.

We are considering using EPICS or TANGO with a control target designed

by us, but we are new in the control systems area. The idea is to monitor a plant remotely and control all the equipment there, like in synchrotrons. We have been studying both control systems, but we would

like to have opinions about, from people who have experience with them. Why use EPICS? Or why use TANGO? What are differences between them? What is EPICS/TANGO better for?

I will much appreciate any kind of information you can bring me in relation to that. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you may need to answer me. If you want you can answer me directly to my email.

Thanks in advance.
