I noticed something interesting today, after I couldn't find a known
previous tech-talk post with Google.
When I looked in the /robots.txt file I saw that tech-talk is explicitly
excluded from crawler indexing:
Disallow: /epics/core-talk
Disallow: /epics/mantis
Disallow: /epics/tech-talk
Disallow: /epics/wiki
I'm wondering why this is, and if it can possibly be undone?
Maybe I'm showing my (lack of) age here, but Google is by far my most
frequently used and relied on tool as a software engineer. The past few
weeks learning EPICS I've been crafting ever more arcane queries to
Google to find results, assuming that if the information is not there
then it does not exist.
I know there's a separate tech-talk search engine, but being able to
query in one place and see results from everywhere is, frankly, a lot
simpler.
Cheers,
Angus
PS Massive fan of the tech-talk list in general!
