The APS IT group will be working on the network and servers here over the
holiday break, and this will affect both the EPICS website and the mailing
lists hosted here. At times between December 26 & 28th there is expected to
be almost no network connectivity to or within the site, so the APS might
appear to have disappeared off the face of the earth (don't worry, we'll be
back eventually!). There may also be some additional disruption for a few
days afterwards depending on how well all the upgrades work out.
Messages sent to the mailing lists during these outages may bounce back to the
original author, or they might get queued up by Argonne and forwarded once
everything comes back online, but unless you actually get a final notice that
your message can't be delivered to tech-talk at all please don't send messages
more than once.
The mailing list archives and RSS feeds might take longer to come back than
the email service, because our ancient Solaris web-server is being replaced
with a culster of LAMP servers, but we're not quite sure about the timing of
that switch-over. This also means that some parts of the website such as the
CVSweb browser pages might be broken for a few days. Please be patient, I'll
get everything working again as soon as I can, although I won't be back at
work myself until January 2nd.
If you need EPICS advice while the APS services are down, you can try joining
the EPICS Users community on Google+ at
https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/113160068949106802880
You will need a Google+ account to be able to post there though.
Wishing everyone season's greetings, and a happy 2013.
