On the 3.15 development branch we have already made a number of changes to msi 
and it will be delivered as part of Base as you suggested.  I have just fixed 
the error status return and errlog race issues though, thanks for flagging 
those bugs which were still present.

BTW your patch was reversed, which caused a little confusion on my part; 
please use "diff old-file new-file" when generating patches, never "diff new-
file old-file".  I have applied your changes to the extensions version of msi 
in CVS and will generate a new release of the extension if there is demand for 
one.
