At Diamond this is exactly the set-up we have on several beamlines.
Our detector severs are as delivered from Dectris, except that we add procserv to automatically start up camserver.
The areaDetector IOC runs on the PPU and communicates with camserver on TCP port 41234. Your dectris server connection would typically have the IP address 10.10.10.100 so the following IOC startup script entries would initialize and connect the driver to camserver.
drvAsynIPPortConfigure("pilatus1.CAMip", "10.10.10.100:41234", 100, 0, 0)
asynOctetSetInputEos("pilatus1.CAMip", 0, "\030")
asynOctetSetOutputEos("pilatus1.CAMip", 0, "\n")
# pilatusDetectorConfig(portName, serverPort, maxSizeX, maxSizeY, maxBuffers, maxMemory)
pilatusDetectorConfig("pilatus1.CAM", "pilatus1.CAMip", 487, 195, 150, 0)

Subject: areaDetector to control Pilatus
Hello everyone,
I am planning to use areDetector to control the Pilatus Detector. For Pilatus, there are 2 computers, one computer is detector server which is directly connected to Pilatus detector, and another computer is called PPU connected to the detector server. The detector server has the program Camserver, which provides interface to EPICS. I have some questions:
Is it possible to install the EPICS & areaDetector only in the PPU to connect to the Camserver in the detector server? If it is possible, what commands should I issue to connect the EPICS & areaDetector to Camserver?
Thank you
GongYu
