This used to be a real life problem at the SNS with some older slit designs. To avoid it we had to move the slit blades sequentially when moving the ‘center’ motor. Which blade moved first depended on which direction the center was being moved. However, almost all our slit assemblies now permit overlapping blades so it’s not an issue anymore.
