Dear EPICS colleagues,

The Advanced Photon Source at Argonne has hosted an EPICS Home page ever
since the very early days of the World Wide Web. The current website has
evolved somewhat since it went live on June 20th 2000, but fundamentally
it still runs on the same HTML+PHP template system that I developed for
it back then.

For the last year or so a number of people have been working quietly to
create a new website for the community, which was first announced last
October in Barcelona. Over the last few months this work has progressed
further, and we think it's now ready for the public.

The new site uses a content-management system (WordPress with various
plugins) that make it possible for many people to contribute to it. We
have also a review mechanism in place so that we can keep the content
and style of the site consistent and under control.

While the site looks new, much of the content has been ported almost
unchanged from the APS website. As a result many pages still need to be
brought up to date, but new contributions are also more than welcome.
Anyone who is willing to contribute can register for an account and
start editing (initially at least all changes will need to be approved
by the site moderators before being published). We need YOU to keep the
website live, fresh and up to date!

So… please visit:

    https://epics-controls.org

Note that the existing website at the APS will not be going away; it
will continue to host the mailing lists and provide an archive for some
of the older extensions and support modules that are no longer being
actively maintained or updated. Some pages will probably be replaced by
redirects to the new site, but it will continue to host the software
produced and maintained by the APS.

Discussion about the site is welcome here on tech-talk, but if you want
to contact the website project team directly we can be collectively
emailed at the address [email protected].

The new website was brought to you by: Dirk Nordt, graphics design and
outlook; Keijo Korhonen, structure, contents and site setup; Azadeh
Sarkheyli, structure, setup and contents; Heinz Junkes, kindly providing
the hosting service; Andrew Johnson, Ralph Lange and Timo Korhonen,
steering and advice; Henrik Carling, funding and resources; Annika
Nordt, producer.

- Andrew Johnson, for the New EPICS Website team.
