Web Components sounded like a good idea, but they've been sub-par so far. They're riddled with issues. Using them is tantamount to using a framework, and it turns out if you're going to use a framework there are much better options (many frameworks quickly
adopted the good parts of Web Components and left the bad). A good summary of Web Component problems:
It's possible Web Components will become more popular - maybe Google will use it's emerging browser monopoly to effectively force it.
Finding a web technology to invest in is difficult since the space is evolving quickly and there are so many choices it can be a huge overwhelming time sink to sort through them all. I attempted to survey the landscape in the ICALEPCS paper I submitted last
Fall ( http://icalepcs2019.vrws.de/papers/wempr008.pdf), though 6 months later we probably need to survey again!
