Hi,

Just two cents from our side:

Can 3rd parties develop I/O devices that interact with the MRF timing system?

Yes. We have been doing such devices (receiver and extension modules) in Cosylab with collaboration with MRF for several years now and we covered multiple form factors. We did it either in EPICS or in LabVIEW, though some other framework could be also done.

Some of the devices that have been created as a result of this collaboration include:
-	A timing receiver and generator card designed to fit the PXIe form factor, making it compatible with National Instruments crates.
-	The IFB300, an external I/O expansion box that can accommodate up to eight I/O modules, providing an efficient and scalable solution for expanding I/O capabilities.
-	A universal IO module with two 32 Mbps RS-485 transmitters and RJ-45 connector, used for triggering a RF injector.
-	Universal IO module with two LVTTL/TTL outputs with superior protection against overvoltage events and selectable output level (3.3 or 5 V) and selectable output termination.

In addition to these, Cosylab has also created custom timing systems using MRF hardware. These custom systems have undergone a complete FPGA firmware redesign and implementation and have been customized for several clients to support special modes of operation, such as multiple parallel sequence execution slots and downstream and upstream event and data transfer.

If you need help with any custom implementation, feel free to contact us.

Best regards,

Žiga
