Matt,

I have no experience with the MFF101, but I did a quick google search 
and found this github issue where multiple users of thorlabs_apt (a 
python wrapper for the vendor windows library) report the same problem 
with the MFF101:

Do any errors occur when attempting to move in the direction that 
doesn't work?
