Yes, I've thought about it a lot, and as soon as I have some available
manpower we'll start it.  Our integration of an OO database uses C++,
and we've done some analysis of the existing records, in terms of
creating a class hierarchy.  EPICS is very object based, so much of
this work is very easy.  There are, however, many tricky details that
would need to be worked out to have the IOC be primarily C++.  I think
that design work in this direction should start within a year, aiming
at implementation within 3 years.  Faster would be nicer, but not possible
with current manpower.  C++ "records" might come sooner.
